Meet Susan

Hi, I’m Susan. So glad you’re here.

I’m a forty-something mom of two, an engineer by trade, and someone who never imagined cooking would become such a big part of my life. Truth be told, I didn’t really cook at all until I got married. Back then, the kitchen felt intimidating and unnecessary. Somewhere along the way, that changed.

These days, cooking is part of my daily rhythm. I could easily order food and have it delivered to my door, but I choose not to. For me, home cooking is about knowing what goes on my family’s plates and helping my kids grow up eating real, nourishing food. It’s not about perfection, it’s about care.

This blog is a collection of the recipes we actually make at home. Some are my own, learned through trial, error, and lots of family feedback. Others come from friends, relatives, old cookbooks, and recipes I’ve picked up along the way and made my own. Every dish here has earned its place in our kitchen.

Before this blog existed, all my recipes lived in a notebook. I wrote everything by hand, clipped recipes from newspapers and magazines, and taped or glued them right next to the notes. It was messy, personal, and full of food stains. My husband kept telling me I should put it all online and eventually, he convinced me. So here I am.

If you’re looking for realistic, home-cooked meals made by someone who didn’t grow up cooking but learned out of love for her family, you’re in the right place.

A Few Fun Facts About Me

  • I’m an engineer who found creativity in the kitchen
  • I believe healthy food doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive
  • I still keep notebooks — old habits die hard
  • I care more about meals my kids will actually eat than fancy plating
  • Many recipes here started as scribbles on paper before becoming blog posts

Do I Have a Cookbook?

I don’t and that’s very much on purpose.

I’m a huge fan of free content that anyone can use, no strings attached. I’m a frugal person at heart, and I truly believe good, home-cooked food shouldn’t come with a price tag. You don’t need to buy a cookbook to feed your family well or eat healthier at home.

Everything I share here is freely available because that’s how I like to learn and cook myself. If a recipe works in my kitchen and my family enjoys it, I’m happy to pass it along. This blog is my way of keeping all those recipes in one place and sharing them with anyone who might need a little inspiration for their next meal.

No sign-ups, no pressure. Just real food, made at home.
